Artists from Vancouver’s East Side unite with Chapel Arts to present a Benefit for the Salvation Army Harbour Light.

Artists from Vancouver’s Eastside are uniting with Chapel Arts to present a benefit Art Exhibition for The Salvation Army Harbour Light Services. Harbour Light (www.harbourlightbc.com) provides hope through a continuum of care program including meals, drop-in centre, substance abuse programs, shelters, and more for the neediest community in our city. The Artists Opening Reception is Saturday May 23, 2009 from 7-11 pm at Chapel Arts (304 Dunlevy Ave. 778-371-9210 ), Vancouver’s newest event space located in an art-deco heritage building. Tickets are $25.00. This art exhibition is open to the public May 24th and runs until June 7th.

William P. Stock, known as Bill to his friends, came very close to needing Harbour Light’s programs himself. Luckily, instead of needing their services, he started volunteering in their daily meal program for this Downtown Eastside neighbourhood. Bill still wanted to do more, and as a photographer came up with the idea of an art benefit and is producing this event along with painter Lori Sokoluk. This event is a collaboration of Vancouver artists, Chapel Arts and The Salvation Army. Funds will be raised through the sale of the Artists’ work, tickets from the Artists Opening Reception and a Silent Auction.

Kicking off this exhibition is the Artists Opening Reception on Saturday May 23, 2009 from 7 pm to 11 pm at Chapel Arts featuring photography, fused glass, textiles, jewelry, furniture and painting. The featured artists are William P. Stock, Lori Sokoluk, Sandy Kay, Jeremy Dane Morris, Katherine Soucie, Joe Thompson, Rock On Jewelry, Anne Hale and Nathan Wiens. Meet the artists, enjoy some finger-food and non-alcoholic refreshments, a Silent Auction, Door Prizes, and listen to the music performed by The Kevin Elaschuk Trio with Bill Coon and André Lachance; and pianist/entertainer Bruce Tilden. Tickets to the Artists Opening Reception are $25 and are available from Chapel Arts, clubzone.com and the artists. Following opening night, the art exhibition is free and runs until Sunday June 7th.
